Printable staff paper – blank manuscript paper

A staff (or stave) is the set of five lines on which music is written. Blank manuscript paper is useful for music lessons, learning an instrument or writing down your own melody.

  1. Choose the paper

Graph, lined, music staff, millimetre, dot grid or tracing patterns.

  2. Adjust the details

Square size or line spacing, colour, line weight, margins and A4, A5 or Letter.

  3. Download and print

The PDF is vector-based, so lines stay crisp on any printer. You can download several pages at once.

Choosing the settings

  • 2 mm line spacing gives an 8 mm staff, as in a typical manuscript book
  • wider spacing (2.5–3 mm) is easier for children
  • a bigger gap between staves leaves room for lyrics or chord names
  • the number of staves per page adjusts automatically

Frequently asked questions

How many staves fit on an A4 page?

10–12 with the default settings, fewer if you widen the gaps.

Is there a treble clef?

No – the paper is blank so it suits any instrument and clef.

Can I make a manuscript book?

Yes, set e.g. 20 pages and print double-sided.
